The Masque of Moments

| Music at Oxford |
Friday, 16th January 2009 8:00 PM

| |
 |
Artist:
Sophie Daneman soprano
William Purefoy countertenor
James Gilchrist tenor
Roderick Williams bass
Programme:
Originating from the masked balls of Henry VI, this form of extravagant royal entertainment is scarcely heard in performances today. These musical sketches are colourful and dramatic, featuring weighty portrayals of virtue, peace, heaven and earth alongside slapstick caricature moments of dancing bears, drunken brawls and feuding sisters. With a musical band of viols, lutes, harp and a line up of top-flight
soloists, this is proper old-fashioned entertainment.
Pre-concert talk with Elizabeth Kenny (lute & director) at 7pm
Entrance Time:
6.45pm (pre-concert talk)
7.30pm (concert)
15% discount when booking 8+ Music at Oxford Concerts or a Group of 10 (Not available online - please call 01865 305305)
